The head of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, announced that NATO cannot solve the issue of the security of its members at the expense of the security of others, indicating that the goal of the Russian operation in Ukraine is limited exclusively to demilitarizing it.
"The citizens of Ukraine should not be afraid of the peacekeeping operation, because it is aimed only at the disarmament of Ukraine," Volodin was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti news agency, noting that "Russian President Vladimir Putin's decision to launch this operation aims to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe and large-scale war."
"Ukraine must become a free, independent, democratic and peaceful country, free from the regime that is hostile to the people with its nationalist ideology, and begin to develop for the benefit of its citizens," he added.
