The US "CNN" news network revealed that the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, visited an unknown airport near the Ukrainian border last week, which has turned into a center for the shipment of weapons into Ukraine from many Western countries.
The network quoted a senior official of the US Department of Defense, who did not reveal his identity, as saying that Milley met during his visit with the forces and soldiers present there and confirmed the shipping activities of weapons and military equipment, noting that the airport had become an active hub during the past few days, including a group of daily flights. Up to 17 flights, which is the airport's maximum capacity.
The official added that the location of the airport was kept a secret to protect the arrival of arms shipments, which include anti-armor missiles to Ukraine, from Russian targeting, explaining that so far the United States and NATO countries have sent 17,000 anti-tank missiles and 2,000 Stinger missiles. He added that even before the recent developments and the Russian military operation, the European airspace was filled with American and other military cargo planes.
The flights were repositioning forces along the eastern flank of NATO and transporting weapons to transfer points that deliver weapons to Ukraine. Since the start of the Russian military operation, 14 countries have sent military aid to Ukraine, including heavy equipment that was not sent before.
The official confirmed that most of the $350 million allocated by the United States as part of the military aid package to Ukraine was delivered just a week after it was approved by the White House, adding that about $240 million of the said aid package arrived in Ukraine and the rest of it will arrive within days. next few.
Another official noted that the US European Command is mainly responsible for the shipments, using its own network of communication with allies and partners to coordinate shipments to Ukraine.
And the American newspaper The Washington Post recently revealed that the United States has provided Ukraine extensively with shipments of lethal weapons and military equipment intended for street warfare and fighting in civilian areas.
