Do not obscure the goal: Equality - no less | Israel today

When discrimination is ingrained in law, it is no wonder that a woman earns on average 30 percent less than a man, and there is no doubt that Women's Day is valid.

Women's Day for me is a day of personal and social soul-searching, not a day of "instant empowerment" that entices me to buy a bra at a 30 percent discount.

It's less sexy than a bra, but it's a bright mental account of looking into the depths of the problem, in a society where a woman is forbidden to divorce her husband unless he allows her to, and if not - she remains imprisoned and anchored forever;

A society in which a woman who gives birth has to struggle to return to the labor force, because putting a baby in an educational setting at 4 months of age, often costs more than the salary she earns (and even this expense is not recognized by law).

Looking into the depth of the problem, in a society where the law stipulates that statutes of limitations on sexual assault are statute-barred - seven years from the date of the assault - which is in stark contrast to psychological patterns of repression, shame and concealment, which take years to emotionally process the incident. It.

When discrimination is enshrined in law, it is no wonder that a woman earns on average 30 percent less than a man, and there is no doubt that Women's Day is valid.

So it is a pity that not every day is Woman's Day, but consciousness begins to seep in, and with it is felt the beginning of a change in perception, which creates a new movement within the workplace.

I can testify that even in my workplace, the Cameri Theater, a change is taking place.

The rate of directors and playwrights has risen dramatically in the last two years, and is currently approaching 50 percent women, and there is a real striving for equal opportunities.

More women writing, more women directing, more stories centered on women reaching the audience.

Israel has the Theater Creators Forum, which promotes the pursuit of gender equality in employment.

It is part of a global movement sweeping the film and performing arts industry, which began after MeToo and Time's Up, culminating in a major demonstration at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018, in which 82 women in the film industry marched in silence to raise the issue on the global agenda.

A great example of this revolution is taking place in Sweden,

This is the beginning of a real change, coming from below, that needs to go hand in hand with change from above, from government ministries and the law.

It is time for regulation, for the establishment of a whole system aimed at equal treatment between men and women in employment.

Produce priority in budgets for workplaces that meet the criteria of gender equality, enforce and demand an appropriate balance of power.

These are not utopian dreams - but the order of the hour, and this is a critical move on the road to the long-awaited equality.

I want to believe that my 14.5-year-old daughter will experience her place in the world in a different, egalitarian and complete way.

Walk in it confidently and confidently.

And I will end with the song "A generation goes and a generation comes", which I really like, by the wonderful poet Adi Caesar: "I am a woman, who walks in fear at night, on dark streets - named after men."
