The number of people fleeing the war in Ukraine is increasing every day.

In Poland alone, 1.2 million people have arrived so far.

More than two million people have fled Ukraine since the Russian invasion began.

This was reported by the United Nations in Geneva.

According to the UN Organization for Migration (IOM), these included a good 100,000 people from third countries.

The World Health Organization (WHO) is trying to supply clinics with material.

There is a particularly great need in the east of the country, where fighting has made supply extremely difficult.

1.2 million arrived in Poland

Most of the refugees went to Poland, Hungary, Romania, Moldova and Slovakia, said a spokeswoman for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

1.2 million people have arrived in Poland so far.

On Monday alone, around 141,500 people crossed the border, the border guard said on Twitter.

The number of war refugees is also increasing in the Czech Republic.

More than 100,000 Ukrainians have arrived so far, according to Prime Minister Petr Fiala.

Japan accepts first eight refugees

In the meantime, Japan has also agreed to accept refugees and has so far allowed eight people into the country.

This figure was announced by the government in Tokyo.

According to Japanese media, Justice Minister Yoshihisa Furukawa will work on taking in evacuees from Ukraine “proactively and quickly”.

Japan, which prides itself on its social homogeneity, generally takes few refugees.

On average, only around one percent of applications are approved each year.

In 2020, there were only 47 out of a total of 3936 applications.
