Luo Zhiguang said that one of the important indicators of gender equality is that regardless of gender, people can pursue their ideal life, career and family according to their own wishes.
However, Hong Kong is still a society that mainly relies on women as caregivers at home, so many women have to choose between work and family.
He promised to strengthen services in child care, elderly services and support for people with disabilities, reduce the pressure on caregivers, encourage men to speak up for women's equality, and respond to the United Nations' "HeForShe" ("He For She") campaign.

Carrie Lam said that according to the United Nations report, Hong Kong's Women's Human Development Index ranks fourth among 167 regions and ranks first in Asia.
The Government has been creating an enabling environment to ensure women's equitable access to social resources and opportunities, including increasing statutory maternity leave to 14 weeks.
She said that currently in the public sector, female civil servants and female directorate civil servants account for nearly 40% of the total civil servants. She has even appointed the first female Director of Drainage Services and female Customs Officer during her tenure.
The proportion of women serving as non-official members of government advisory and statutory bodies also reached the 35% target last year.
In the private market, nearly 37% of managers and executives were held by women in the previous year, a record high.
Lam also pointed out that in the two years of anti-epidemic work, many medical staff, front-line and behind-the-scenes anti-epidemic personnel, and volunteers are all women. I would like to express my most heartfelt thanks and full recognition to them as they have two jobs and at the same time act as caregivers at home.

Luo Zhiguang said that the theme of this year's Women's Day is "Building a Sustainable Tomorrow with Gender Equality Today". An important indicator of gender equality is that women's opportunities to participate in society should not be affected by gender stereotyped labels or roles.
He said that an important part of the Hong Kong government's promotion of women's development is to strengthen support for caregivers and reduce the burden and pressure on women's families. He hoped that the whole society would participate.
