The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and the Syrian Diplomatic Club, organized today a reception on the occasion of the launch of the International Women’s Film Festival under the title “Women Makes Change” at Dar Al-Assad for Culture and Arts in Damascus.

The Minister of Culture, Dr. Lubana Mushawah, said in a statement to reporters that the festival's message to the world is that Syrian women, through difficult years of war, injustice and oppression, are still steadfast and capable of creating a patriotic generation that adheres to their roots, land and future.

Mushawah pointed out that the festival reflects the true and ideal image of the Syrian youth's will and ability to change and build a bright future for their country, indicating that the films that will be shown are either directed by a woman or address her issues and are the product of creative humanitarian work.

In turn, Chargé d'Affairs at the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Damascus, Vida Soraya Verzosa, said in an exclusive statement to SANA that the film festival will start today after 12 years of hiatus due to the war conditions in Syria. Make change” stems from our belief in the real role of women in society and conveying a positive image of them.

The President of the Diplomatic Club, the wife of the South African Ambassador in Damascus, Reneva Faure, indicated in a similar statement that the festival is a great opportunity to exchange the cultures of the participating countries, which are part of the Syrian Diplomatic Club and will reflect through her films the privacy of women in each country.

For his part, the Director of the General Film Organization, Murad Shaheen, promised to work on developing all available capabilities so that the festival would be an annual event, with the same methodology and method of cooperation with friendly countries, while developing it in terms of performances and the nature of participation, and including competitions, honors and winners such as international festivals that revolve around women, stressing that Syrian cinema since its inception has adopted a cause Women as a fundamental issue in society.
