The activities of the first international festival for women's cinema were launched at Dar Al-Assad for Culture and Arts this evening, with the participation of ten Arab and foreign countries, which will continue until the 26th of this month.

The festival, which is organized by the Ministry of Culture in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines, the Syrian Diplomatic Club and the General Film Corporation, under the title “Women Makes Change” includes the screening of a series of cinematic films that tell the stories of women who showed courage during peace and war and made a difference in their societies.

During the opening ceremony of the festival at the Drama Theater in Dar al-Assad, Minister of Culture, Dr. Lubana Mushawah, stressed the importance of this event because it came after years of a lean war to celebrate the seventh art, which captured the passion of millions of people around the world and created a language that delves into the depths of the human soul and reveals its truth, noting that the festival will provide an opportunity To see models from the film industry that differ and are distinguished by their identities, cultures and vision of existence.

Chargé d'Affairs of the Philippine Embassy in Damascus Vida Soraya Verzosa indicated in her speech that cinema today is an updated version of the storyteller who used to fascinate us with his stories in the past, including contradictions between tragedy and hope, indicating that the characters of the 15 films participating in the festival reflect women's pursuit of happiness and rise from adversity because they are able to make a difference in their lives and the lives of others.

From Pakistan, Nilofar Bakhtiar, Chairperson of the National Committee on the Status of Women, spoke through a video speech about the status of women in her country and the endeavors to enhance her role and empower her to achieve economic construction and strengthen brotherhood and friendship for the whole world.

On the sidelines of the festival, the Minister of Culture inaugurated a retrospective exhibition of some of the ministry’s holdings, “Directorate of Fine Arts in the exhibition hall of the Arab Cultural Center in Al-Adawi,” entitled “Women Make Change,” which included 32 works by Syrian artists and plastic artists who embodied the greatness of Syrian women through time.
