Russian forces attempt to encircle Ukrainian troops in the east

Russian forces are advancing from the north and south to encircle Ukrainian troops in the east of the country, according to an intelligence update from the UK Ministry of Defence.

"Russian forces are trying to envelop Ukrainian forces in the east of the country as they advance from the direction of Kharkiv in the north and Mariupol in the south," he said on Wednesday.

The battlefield in northern Ukraine "remains largely static, with Russian forces likely undergoing a period of reorganization before resuming full-scale offensive operations," according to the update.

As far as southern Ukraine is concerned, Russian forces are still "trying to get around Mykolaiv while trying to push west towards Odessa," he added.

Russia claims to have attacked a military arsenal in northwest Ukraine

The Russian military said in a statement Wednesday that it had attacked a military arsenal in northwestern Ukraine with sea-launched missiles, continuing an apparent campaign against targets closer to Ukraine's western border.

"On the night of March 22, high-precision long-range sea-launched weapons targeted an arsenal in the town of Orzhiv, 14 kilometers (about 8.6 miles) northwest of the city of Rivne," he said. Major General Igor Konashenkov, spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry.

"As a result of the attack, a large arsenal of weapons and military equipment of the Ukrainian troops, including those received from Western countries, was destroyed."

CNN could not immediately verify that claim.

On Monday, the Russian military said it had fired air-launched cruise missiles at what it described as a Ukrainian military training center in Nova Lyubomyrka in the Rivne oblast (region).

Vitalii Koval, head of the Rivne regional administration, confirmed that two Russian missiles hit the territory of a military training camp.

Protesters tried to block the docking in Turkey of a yacht with links to Russian oligarch

The Bermuda-flagged luxury yacht 'My Solaris' docked at the Aegean seaside resort of Bodrum in southwestern Turkey on March 21.

Protesters in the Turkish port of Bodrum tried to block the docking of "My Solaris", a yacht allegedly linked to Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, on Monday.

Members of the Odessa Sailing School for Children and Youth, commonly known as the Optimist Sailing Club, were reportedly carrying Ukrainian flags and signs reading "No to war."

"It was the decision of the entire team to block the approach of the Russian oligarch Abramovich's yacht," team coach Pavlo Dontsov told CNN.

"We raise the flag of our country in many international competitions. We just want to show everyone who Ukraine is."

According to Marine Traffic, "My Solaris" docked in Bodrum on Monday night.

Local ceasefire agreed for civilians to flee Luhansk in eastern Ukraine

A temporary ceasefire was expected to take effect at 9 a.m. local time on Wednesday to allow civilians to flee eastern Ukraine's Luhansk region, Ukraine's local administrator reported on social media. Governor Serhiy Gaidai.

The post detailed the gathering places civilians could go to before boarding the trains that would take them from Luhansk, which is in the disputed Donbas region.

"Attention!! A humanitarian corridor has been agreed: residents of Rubizhne, Lysychansk, Severodonetsk, Hirska community (specifically, Nizhne) will be evacuated today," Gadai wrote.

A bit of context

: Fierce fighting has gripped the Luhansk region, including the alleged Russian bombing of a nursing home, which killed 56 people on March 11.

On Monday, Ukraine's Foreign Ministry accused Russian forces of forcibly deporting 2,389 children from Donetsk and the Luhansk region.
