Six people placed in police custody as part of the investigation into suspicions of favoritism in the awarding of a public contract in Puy-en-Velay were released on Thursday, we learned on Friday April 1 with the National Financial Prosecutor's Office.

The people heard in the context of the open investigation of the heads of favouritism, corruption and influence peddling are the trade deputy, Jérôme Eynard, as well as officials from the services of the municipality and the agglomeration, including the director General Stéphane Granet, according to sources close to the investigation confirming information from the Mediacités site, which revealed the case this week.

More than thirty investigators from the gendarmerie, accompanied by two magistrates from the PNF, had carried out searches on Tuesday in the premises of the two communities as well as in the homes of several people.

The investigation follows a complaint for “

favouritism

” filed in February with the Puy-en-Velay prosecution.

The public contract concerned relates to the management of the future hall of the covered market in the city center, a contract of eight million euros over ten years in this municipality directed by the UDI Michel Chapuis.

According to Mediacités, one of the two candidates for the market, a local political opponent restaurateur to the former mayor of the city between 2008 and 2016, Laurent Wauquiez, "

was deliberately disadvantaged during the procedure

".
