Today, the US authorities indicted four people who tried to kidnap the governor of Michigan with planning to use a "weapon of mass destruction" and igniting a "civil war" in the United States.
And the media reported that the US Attorney General accused four American men of plotting to kidnap Governor Gretchen Whitmer, saying that they "wanted to ignite a civil war."
Assistant US Attorney Nils Kessler said: "The four defendants collected firearms and conducted a reconnaissance of the home she was vacationing in as part of a plan to attack."
Kessler noted in Michigan federal court that the four defendants “trained to kidnap the governor, surrounded her house in the middle of the night, mapped it and collected weapons and bombs,” adding that “the group’s goal was to end restrictions on the spread of epidemics and spark a second American Civil War as supporters of the (( Bogalo) anti-government.”
The indictment states that one of the defendants "ordered explosives worth $4,000 from an FBI undercover agent."
The FBI said it began tracking the group's movements after seeing online discussions that included posts about the violent overthrow of some state governments.
The four defendants are among 13 men arrested in October 2020 and charged with state or federal crimes in the alleged kidnapping plot, with seven of them facing charges in state court.
