Munich is tightening the rules for parking e-scooters.
The vehicles are to be given 40 parking spaces within the Altstadtring.
Munich – After the city of Frankfurt am Main, Munich is also tightening the rules for e-scooters.
From the middle of the year, these may only be parked in the around 40 areas specially provided for this purpose within the Altstadtring.
The mobility department agreed this with the five providers who rent e-scooters in Munich.
By the end of the month, the first 15 areas should be signposted and marked accordingly by the building department.
The new regulation is intended to prevent e-scooters from being parked where they impede pedestrians.
E-scooters in Munich: parking areas at Stachus, Rindermarkt or Sendlinger Tor
The new parking areas for e-scooters will be created, for example, at the Stachus, at Rindermarkt, at Sendlinger Tor and in Maximilianstrasse.
The fees continue if the e-scooter is not parked in the designated area.
The providers have also voluntarily committed to making the use of the new parking spaces more attractive, for example through financial incentives.
"I keep getting complaints from citizens about parked e-scooters that endanger pedestrians and especially people with visual impairments or restricted mobility," says Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD).
This situation urgently needs to be improved.
"I would like to thank the providers for the cooperation, but at the same time I expect that they will now work intensively towards using the new, specially set up parking spaces for the e-scooters."
New rules for e-scooters in Munich: Approval comes from the Association of Dealers
The new regulation also comes from the association of inner-city dealers, City Partner.
"We hope that this recurring annoyance for visitors and companies in the old town can now be eliminated through well-chosen parking spaces."
