Russia has closed the local offices of human rights NGOs Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, according to a statement released Friday (April 8) by the Russian Ministry of Justice.

The local representation of Amnesty (UK) and that of HRW (USA) have "
been excluded from the official register of foreign non-governmental organisations
" in Russia, due to "
violations of Russian legislation
", according to the communicated.
This is their de facto closure, Amnesty said in a statement.
