About 50,000 homes, particularly in New Aquitaine, were without electricity on Friday evening after the passage of storm Diego over part of France, and in particular in this region of south-west France where orange vigilance for " strong winds” activated since Thursday for the departments of Charente-Maritime, Vienne and Deux-Sèvres was lifted on Friday evening.

“Following the passage of storm Diego, at 10 p.m. less than 50,000 customers were without electricity, particularly in New Aquitaine around the Gironde estuary,” announced a spokeswoman for the network manager Enedis.

“Thanks to the automation of the electrical networks and the pre-mobilization of the Enedis teams, the first impacted customers were able to be restored this (Friday) evening”, he added.

Two people injured, one seriously

Storm Diego hit the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region hard on Friday.

During this "classic storm in intensity but unusual for the month of April" according to Météo-France, winds were recorded at 110 km / h in Chassiron in Charente-Maritime and 104 km / h in Poitiers.

The climatic conditions caused trees to fall on the railway tracks and seriously disrupted the railway network, in particular TER traffic.

The passage of the storm has caused more than 300 interventions by firefighters from the Gironde since 3 p.m. Friday, and two people have been injured, one of them seriously, without vital prognosis, when a tree fell on a caravan.

Three departments in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region - Puy-de-Dôme, Loire and Haute-Loire - are still on orange alert for "strong winds", while storm Diego has shifted to the east of the country.
