The reason ?
The official site vie-publique.fr writes: “
No results, partial or definitive, can be communicated to the public through the press or by any means of communication to the public electronically, in mainland France, before the closing of the last polling station
”.
If a French media publishes the results before 8 p.m., it is liable to a fine of 75,000 euros.
However, it is possible to find estimates well before this set time.
If the French law concerns the French media, it does not concern the foreign media, some of which take up the surveys of the polling institutes carried out at the exit of the polling stations.
In 2017, for example, we remember the Belgian media which had published the first figures around 5.30 p.m.
The figures published at 8 p.m. will not be final.
These are estimates published by polling institutes based on the first ballots counted.
The Ministry of the Interior will publish the results commune by commune over the course of the evening.
