The conservative president of Colombia has promised to provide Paraguay with intelligence, counter-insurgency and military training schools to fight this guerrilla group, which claims Marxism-Leninism.
EPP has been operating since 2008 in the department of Concepcion, about 500 km east of Asuncion, near the border with Brazil, one of the poorest regions of Paraguay.
He is accused of several kidnappings, as well as the assassination of civilians, police and soldiers.
The EPP is said to have links with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), once the most powerful guerrillas on the South American continent and which laid down their arms in 2016, according to documents made public in 2010 by the Paraguayan authorities.
