Winner of the second round of the presidential election, Emmanuel Macron has therefore won his bet.
His victory is historic on two counts.
On the one hand, because he joins François Mitterrand and Jacques Chirac in the very exclusive club of Heads of State elected twice consecutively by direct universal suffrage.
On the other hand, because he becomes the first outgoing president in the history of the fifth Republic re-elected outside the period of cohabitation.
