Life is getting more and more expensive: rent, groceries, gas, heating... And now parking costs are skyrocketing!

Munich – At the beginning of the year, the Munich city council decided that craftsmen and tradespeople would have to pay much more for their parking permits this year than before: craftsmen and sales representatives 720 euros instead of the previous 265 euros, commercial residents even 720 instead of 120 euros.

Now the companies are receiving payment requests from the KVR.

"That's a mess!" - City of Munich collects from Parklinzenz

Josef Schreiner (54) is the head of three small car workshops.

He needs a parking space for his customers – the green pass for this used to cost 120 euros.

Last week came the letter with the subject "Enforcement of the Road Traffic Act": The validity of the ID card is expiring - for an extension he should transfer 720 euros.

Carpenter: "That's a mess!

This is no longer possible for small local businesses.

We have to fight to survive anyway.”

Other companies could at least park in the entire city area with their craftsmen's ID card.

For his small workshop, the 720 euros only paid for a parking license on the Theresienhöhe.

And that where more and more parking spaces would have to give way to sidewalk cafés.

Josef Schreiner called the city to complain: "I said I don't want to buy a whole block of streets, just a small parking license." It didn't help.

The anger is great at the politicians.

"We're not the cash cow of the city!

We already pay trade tax like the state officers," complains the 54-year-old.

City of Munich: Price increase decided as part of the traffic turnaround

Green City Councilor Gudrun Lux had described the price increase for craftsmen and tradespeople as "logical" in the context of the debate on the traffic turnaround before the decision was made in January.

Since public space is rare in Munich, you just have to turn all the screws.

And: The craftsmen could deduct the costs for tax purposes.

The decision was already hotly debated on social media.

But will normal residents in Munich soon have to pay significantly more for their parking permits?

The upper limit for fees in Bavaria has not changed since 1993 – a license costs 30 euros per year in Munich.

Soon 360 euros instead of 30?

Parking permits for residents will soon be more expensive

The Bavarian Ministry of the Interior spoke up yesterday.

"We are planning to launch an implementation proposal for the fees for resident parking permits and parking fees shortly." "Soon" Bavaria will submit a proposal on how expensive parking should be in the future.

1993

The upper limit for parking fees in Bavaria has not changed since 1993.

Until then, Munich is on hold.

The mobility department announced yesterday: "Only when the specifications of the Free State are available can further action be decided by the city council." The parliamentary groups are already discussing implementation.

Munich plans new increase for resident parking permit

Nikolaus Gradl, transport policy spokesman for the SPD/Volt: "We can imagine a staggering of the resident parking permits according to the area of the public space used." of the fees for tradespeople there has not yet been an "adequate" increase in the residents' parking fees.

"However, we have reason to believe that this blockade will be overcome in the course of 2022."

A parking permit for the 62 parking license areas in Munich currently costs 30 euros per year.

A report commissioned by the Munich transport association, the transport company and the city of Munich recommends increasing parking fees tenfold.

Space in Munich is scarce and expensive: A parking surcharge for SUV drivers has already caused discussions.
