The Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar reported this morning (Tuesday) that Turkey had recently put pressure on the Hamas leadership by not allowing some members of the terrorist organization to return to Turkey after traveling on organizational missions.
It was also reported that Turkey withheld visas for other Hamas members who intended to hold meetings with Hamas leaders in Istanbul.
Following this, a meeting was held between the Hamas delegation and the Turkish authorities in February, during which members of the terrorist organization heard clear talk about changes in Turkish policy.
This is due to great pressure on Ankara in the economic field, which forces it to make changes in the mechanism of international and regional relations, which may affect Hamas' presence in Turkey.
In addition, the Turkish side spoke of information it had received from security forces around the world, including from Israel, which spoke of military activity by Hamas members inside Turkey.
Against this background, the Turks decided to prevent the entry of people connected to military activity into Turkish territory.
This move came despite Hamas' opposition to preventing members of the organization from arriving at airports since the beginning of the year.
The Turks replied that these figures were connected with military activity, which is not acceptable in Turkish soil.
However, the paper reported that the Turkish side stressed that it would not put any pressure on Hamas in areas related to commercial or economic or financial activity, nor would it freeze Hamas investments in Turkish territory or expel people unrelated to military activity.
Turkey's position has been transferred to the relevant echelons in Hamas.
