Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev warned against NATO's recent statement that it is not bound by any agreements, considering that it means the possibility of transferring nuclear weapons to new member states of the alliance.
Medvedev was quoted by (Novosti) news agency as saying today, "NATO members announced today that they consider themselves not bound by the Constitutive Act with Russia and that conditions have changed.. the consequences of this step are simple.. it is possible to transfer nuclear weapons to the territory of new member states of the alliance and conduct provocative military operations near from our borders.
Medvedev added that "the founding law between NATO and Russia issued in 1997 is not an international treaty... It is a political document."
Russia recently warned NATO of the consequences of its continued pumping of weapons to the Kyiv authorities, indicating that any means of NATO transport loaded with weapons that reach Ukraine will be treated as a legitimate military target for destruction.
