US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has been infected with the corona virus.
A PCR test was positive on Wednesday afternoon, the State Department in Washington said.
Blink have mild symptoms.
The 60-year-old was fully vaccinated and boosted.
US President Joe Biden has not met Blinken in person for several days, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said.
The 79-year-old Biden last tested negative for a coronavirus on Tuesday.
The State Department said Blinken will isolate at home and work from home, under CDC guidelines.
US Vice President tested negative again
Last week, US Vice President Kamala Harris tested positive for corona.
Harris' office announced on Monday that the 57-year-old had tested negative again.
Since March, there had already been several corona cases in Biden's environment, including, for example, his spokeswoman Psaki, Attorney General Merrick Garland and Trade Secretary Gina Raimondo.
Overall, the corona situation in the USA has eased.
After the Omicron wave, the number of new infections reported in the country with a good 330 million inhabitants in March was only around 30,000 per day.
In the meantime, according to CDC data, the daily number of cases has risen again to more than 60,000 on a seven-day average.
