22 people were killed, 7 others were injured and another was missing when a bus plunged into a deep ravine in Uttarkashi district, north India today.

"A bus carrying 30 passengers was on its way to Yamunotri in the state of Uttarakhand in the Himalayas when it veered off the road in Badia Pradesh and fell into a deep ravine, killing 22 people and injuring seven others," Uttarakshi police chief Urban Yadovanchi told AFP. He was injured and one person is still missing.

Uttarakhand is home to some of Hinduism's most sacred sites and receives millions of pilgrims annually, but its roads are poorly maintained and very dangerous.
