Cologne mourns the popular Büttenredner – "Et Rumpelstilzje" is dead

Fritz Schopps died on Sunday, June 5th after a short but serious illness.
As "Et Rumpelstilzje", the Büttenredner caused laughter at the Cologne carnival.
Cologne – Fritz Schopps, better known as “Et Rumpelstilzje”, is dead. He was a Bütten speaker at the Cologne carnival for almost 40 years.
In the role of "Et Rumpelstilzje" caused laughter in Cologne and the surrounding area.
Now the 76-year-old has died, as reported by 24RHEIN.

“This news will probably come as a surprise to many of you.
Yesterday our father Fritz - your Rumpelstizje - died after a short and serious illness," says a Facebook post by son Martin Schopps, who is himself a Büttenredner.
"It was his wish to spend the last few weeks in peace and quiet with his family, without any hustle and bustle.
He would have loved to say goodbye to you on stage, but he was denied his last session.
Keep him in your heart for what he was: a piece by Kölle," Fritz Schopps' son continued.
Carnival societies such as the Nippes militia have already said goodbye to "Et Rumpelstilzje".
In an Instagram post it says: "Mach et joot us Rumpelstitzje".
And KG Ponyhof also writes: “Our deepest condolences.
And the greatest respect for the great artistic ability on the stages of Cologne.
For decades."
Fritz Schopps is dead: a fixed size in the Cologne carnival died
The Cologne native studied mathematics, English and history to become a teacher.
As a teacher he worked at the Willy-Brandt-Gesamtschule in Cologne-Höhenhaus (Cologne-Mülheim district).
There he taught English, mathematics and history.

Since 1983 he has appeared as a paper speaker in the character "Et Rumpelstilzje" with a wide-brimmed felt hat and reported on the latest news from the world of fairy tales.
Over the decades, Schopps has developed into one of the most influential faces of the Cologne carnival.
He was also part of the ARD Rose Monday session in Cologne's Gürzenich.
But even before that he was involved in the Cologne carnival.
Together with Jürgen Bachem and Walter Heilmann, Schopps founded the music group "Arm Söck" in the 1970s.
Songs of the trio: "Ananas and a Kölsch vum Fass" and "I want a car with a black K".
In 2002 Fritz Schopps received the honorary title Magister linguae et humoris Coloniensis (master of the Cologne language and Cologne humor) for his work at the carnival.
The title was awarded to him by the carnival club KG Fidele Aujosse Blau-Gold vun 1969 eV
