The city council supports the council's proposal.

Rainbow flags should be waved at the town hall and schools as a symbol of tolerance and peace.

Geretsried – That with Dr.

Detlev Ringer that someone from his own parliamentary group had voted against the motion by co-signer Peter Curtius caused discord among the Greens last year.

Now there is “pace” on this question.

A rainbow flag will also be flying during Pride Week this year.

But not only as a symbol of tolerance, but this time also of peace.

Recently, as reported, Felix Leipold (Free Voters) and Peter Curtius initiated taking part in Pride Week in Munich to take a stand against exclusion and discrimination.

A rainbow flag was then hoisted at the town hall in Geretsried and the youth council painted sidewalks with the appropriate colors.

Geretsried should signal cosmopolitanism with the rainbow flag

In the most recent meeting of the city council, it was the youth council that submitted the application for the city hall and city schools to be equipped with the symbolic flags.

Youth Councilor Mathis Tomsu argued that people who cannot identify with conventional gender and sexuality, i.e. the LGBTQIA+ community, are structurally disadvantaged.

With the flag, the city signals cosmopolitanism and promotes a colorful togetherness.

"Everyone has the right to free development of their personality, as long as they do not violate the rights of others and do not violate the constitutional order or the moral code," Tomsu quoted the second article of the Basic Law.

The rainbow flag should make this clear from July 2nd to 17th.

This year, Pride Week will take place for two weeks, as Tomsu explained that it could only be carried out in a mixed form in the past two years due to the corona.

The last rainbow flag was stolen after the European Championship

Mayor Michael Müller restricted that the schools could only be flagged with their consent.

"We can decide that for the town hall." In this case, the administration would have to procure a new copy.

"The last one was stolen after the European Championship," reported the mayor.

Unlike last year, Dr.

Detlev Ringer the initiative now - if the application is supplemented.

When Leipold and Curtius, the two youngest city councilors, campaigned for the campaign last year, he voted against it.

"I've reached an age where I no longer have to conform to the spirit of the times," he explained at the time.

Curtius subsequently criticized the lack of support in the group.

"Flagging should be a reminder for peace and tolerance"

A few months ago he met Leipold and Curtius, Ringer said at the meeting.

"I gave them a rainbow flag," said the Green City Councilor.

Namely, this one bore the inscription “Pace”, the Italian word for peace.

This call is much older.

He therefore suggested adding to the resolution: "Flagging should be a reminder for peace and tolerance."

Elmar Immertreu (Geretsrieder Liste), and the city council followed suit.

Patrik Kohlert's (Geretsrieder Liste) initiative not only to hang up the flag this year found a majority.

An accompanying information event would also be desirable again, emphasized Andreas Rottmüller (CSU).

“The schools supported the campaign last year.

That went perfectly," said Heidi Dodenhöft (Free Voters).

The flagging was decided with one dissenting vote (Christos Saridis, CSU).

"The flags will soon be procured from the city youth welfare service," Leipold said afterwards.

In the meantime, in addition to the two elementary schools, the middle school, the high school and the Waldorf school have also announced that they will take part in the Pride Week.

Rainbow as a symbol

The rainbow flag has been an international symbol of the lesbian and gay rights movement since the 1970s.

It was designed by American artist Gilbert Baker for Gay Freedom Day 1978. The color pink stands for sexuality, red for life, orange for health, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, turquoise for art, blue for harmony and violet for spirit.

The rainbow has since been used in various forms in this context.

A little longer, the rainbow is a sign of the international peace movement.

In 1961, the activist Aldo Capitini provided it with the lettering "Pace", Italian for "peace", and provided it with a peace march.

Since then she has been seen all over the world at demonstrations against war and violence.

The colors have a different order: violet-blue-light blue-green-yellow-orange-red.

By the way: everything from the region is also available in our regular Wolfratshausen-Geretsried newsletter.
