INFOGRAPHIC – The right will lose its status as the first opposition group but it hopes to appear as a pivotal party in the future legislature.

First opposition force so far in the National Assembly, Les Républicains are about to lose this status.

The right (LR and UDI) would total around 11.3% of the vote, a score certainly much higher than the 4.76% of the candidate of the Republicans (LR) Valérie Pécresse in the presidential election.

The estimate circulating behind the scenes and on which several elected officials have based their hope of a rebound is as follows: a qualification for 150 duels in the second round and 50% of victories at the key, or about 70 seats.

This unofficial objective is below the most optimistic calculations but above the various projections put forward by the polls which do not estimate the new LR-UDI group to have more than 60 deputies.

Despite this score down from 2017, Les Républicains hope to play a more important role by becoming a pivotal group that would weigh on the reforms if the President of the Republic did not manage to obtain a sufficiently solid majority to govern.

LR finds “a little oxygen”

Senator Philippe Bas welcomed "

a very clear recovery

" from LR while Rachida Dati, mayor of the 7th arrondissement of Paris, affirmed that "

the right is not dead

".

The first round of the legislative elections gives "

a little oxygen

" to the Les Républicains (LR) party, after the disastrous score of the presidential election.

The game is not over

”, she added on TF1, calling on the French to “

be mobilized

” and to “

elect as many LR deputies as possible

” during the second round next Sunday.

LR can thus congratulate itself on the good result of several of its leaders, who appear in the 10 constituencies where the LR-UDIs have the highest scores.

In the Doubs, the number 2 of the party Annie Genevard came out on top (42.1%) and will face the candidate Together!

Same thing in the Lot where the secretary general Aurélien Pradié is ahead (with 45.5%) of the candidate of Nupes.

Several outgoing deputies eliminated in the first round

The Republicans, however, suffered a number of setbacks, with 450 aspiring LR-UDI deputies, including several outgoing, eliminated in the first round.

One thinks of the sovereignist Julien Aubert in the Vaucluse, or in the Yonne of Guillaume Larrivé.

Defender of a hard line, Gilles Platret is also eliminated in Saône-et-Loire.

Faced with converts, the LRs are also struggling.

Patrick Pessis will not have been able to revive the Sarkozy bastion of Hauts-de-Seine and win against the outgoing MP who left for Together!

Pascal Bioulac in the Loir-et-Cher, and Guillaume Peltier passed to Reconquête, are both eliminated in the first round.

The Minister of Solidarity Damien Abad, whose campaign has been disrupted by accusations of rape, finds himself in a favorable ballot in Ain, a former stronghold of the right where it continues to plummet.

In the fifth constituency, the former leader of the Les Républicains deputies obtained 33.38% of the vote, against 23.54% for the Nupes candidate Florence Pisani, and is in a good position to keep his place in the government by obtaining a third term.

Last symbol, the president of the Young Republicans: Guilhem Carayon, in the third constituency of Tarn, fails to qualify for the second round.

Succession will wait.
