The Eurowings machine was on its way from Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic to Frankfurt am Main when there was a pressure drop in the cabin on Sunday morning.

In addition, the oxygen masks above the passenger seats were triggered.

A reaction intended in such situations.

A rapid drop in cabin pressure can result in unconsciousness or even suffocation.

This is to be prevented by the oxygen masks on board.

Rapid changes in pressure can damage the middle ear.

In such a situation, a pilot tries to move the aircraft back into a higher air pressure zone by descending.

This is to prevent further cabin air escaping.
