Earlier in the day, senior adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said Tehran was "technically" capable of producing a nuclear bomb.
In an interview with Al-Jazeera in Arabic, Kamal Harazi, Iran's former foreign minister, said his country would not negotiate its nuclear program and regional policy, adding that Tehran would respond directly to Israel if it harmed it.
"In a few days we were able to enrich pines to a level of 60% and we could easily produce 90% enriched uranium ... Iran has the technical capabilities to produce a nuclear bomb but no decision has been made whether to build such a bomb," Harazi said.
A week ago, Reuters reported that a report by the National Atomic Energy Agency that it had received said that Iran had begun enriching uranium with advanced centrifuges at a Purdue reactor.
The use of advanced centrifuges makes it easier to switch between different degrees of enrichment, and to accelerate the ability to develop nuclear weapons.
According to the Atomic Energy Agency, Iran has begun feeding the centrifuges in enriched uranium to a concentration of 5%.
Iran has previously announced that it intends to enrich uranium to a concentration level of 20%.
