La Teste-de-Buch and Landiras
The first few days, Cyril tried to remain
"optimistic",
despite the recurring smell of smoke, the thick gray plume rising intermittently in the sky of La Teste-de-Buch and the ballet of bomber planes from water in the air.
Monday, in the middle of the day, the 37-year-old craftsman, living in Pyla-sur-Mer, however had to evacuate his home, as a precaution.
"We were quickly informed of the upcoming evacuation, so we had time to pack some things and load the cars."
In his suitcases, he takes
“what is small and valuable: computers, business things, some clothes and two cats.”
At the police checkpoint, Cyril asks what muffled noises he hears in the distance.
"Gas cylinders from the Dune campsites exploding
," the police replied.
"I hadn't thought of it, I went back and forth to my house to exfiltrate mine."
Like Cyril, more than 37,000 people in Gironde had to leave their homes...
