The Meretz candidate, who announced her joining the race, called herself a "Meretz leader" - about a month before the confrontation with Yair Golan.

She has not yet had time to return - and has already caused a stir:

Zehava Gal-On, who today (Tuesday) announced her candidacy for the Meretz presidency, changed her details on her Twitter account following criticism and press inquiries.

After her return, Gal-On wrote in her profile "Meretz leader."

This provoked a wave of criticism, since the announcement came before the confrontation with MK Yair Golan was decided.

After a while, Gal-On changed the description to: "I'm back. Meretz is back. Function now."

In a tweet on her account, she wrote: "The truth? You are right. Only the functionaries will determine who will be the Meretz leader. Then you will function."

In recent weeks, her party members have appealed to Galon to call on the leadership to face Yair Golan again.

As mentioned, about a week ago, the current party chairman and health minister Nitzan Horowitz announced that he would not run again for the party leadership in the upcoming primaries.

Following Galon's announcement, she met with Prime Minister Yair Lapid - and expressed to him her commitment to the bloc of change.

The Meretz Election Commission has decided that the elections for the party leadership and the list will take place on August 23.

The committee also decided that it would be possible to function for the party until July 31 in order to participate in the elections (subject to the approval of the party conference to shorten the qualifying period).
