From August 1, people aged 75 and over will be able to travel by public transport, the Ministry of Transportation announced tonight (Tuesday).

This age group can travel free of charge and without restriction on all means of public transportation, including buses, Israel Railways, light rail and the cable car in Haifa.

This is the first time in Israel that a particular sector enjoys such a benefit and in such a sweeping way and without any conditions and restrictions.

To enjoy the benefit, you will need to load a "gold-line" profile on the regular multi-line card or in one of the payment apps, and the card will be valid when boarding the bus or train.

The Rabbi Kav card for seniors was launched today at the "On the Line" center in Rishon Lezion in the presence of Transportation Minister Merav Michaeli, Director General of the Ministry of Transportation Michal Frank, Director of the National Public Transportation Authority Ran Shadmi, Rishon Lezion Mayor Raz Kinstlich and other senior officials.

Holders of a multi-line card will be required to recharge the new gold-line profile that entitles them to free travel, even if their card is loaded with a senior citizen profile that entitles them to a 50% discount.

Without uploading the new profile they will continue to pay a reduced price but will not enjoy a free ride.

The profile is not automatically updated upon reaching the age of 75, but requires an update in one of the ways that the Ministry of Transportation makes available to them.
