The track of a criminal act is privileged after the fire started on July 12 in Landiras, partly at the origin of the “mega-fire” ravaging the Gironde.
Acting as part of an investigation entrusted by the Bordeaux prosecutor's office, the gendarmes hear a suspect, in police custody since Monday afternoon.
Aged 39, living near Landiras, he is known for a similar case dating back to 2012, dismissed for lack of evidence.
Originally, the gendarmes had the testimony of a mechanic who, on the day of the incident, saw a vehicle parked below a crossroads and fleeing when it arrived.
There is of course imprudence, negligence, but also, in a proportion difficult to estimate, voluntary acts
Alexandre Jouassart, spokesperson for Civil Security
"
The witness noted that the fire was spreading
," said Frédérique Porterie, prosecutor of Bordeaux.
He stopped and tried in vain to turn it off.
On site, technicians were able to make findings which "
accredit a deliberately malicious act
".
