As part of the strengthening of the seam line as part of the "Breakwater" operation, the construction of the IDF's engineering barrier in the Judean Desert began last April. The IDF spokesperson stated that this is a significant move for preventing the scope of illegal infiltrators to Israel and, therefore, also thwarting terrorist acts future in the territory of the country.

The chief combat engineering officer, Lt. Col. Ido Mizrahi, and the Chief of Engineering of the Central Command, Lt. Col. Ido Zourno, are entrusted with the job.

For the purpose of completing the obstacle, more than 60 dedicated tools were allocated.

As of this writing, five kilometers of trench-like barrier have been excavated.

The construction of the barrier is coordinated with the Nature and Parks Authority and the Antiquities Authority.

Simultaneously with the construction of the barrier, and for the purpose of protecting the seam, a mission and dedicated brigade headquarters was established in the area, which includes two battalions.

In recent weeks, the IDF forces, as part of Operation "Breaking the Waves", drove away hundreds of vehicles and seized dozens of vehicles that tried to infiltrate into Israel illegally. Chief of Staff Kochavi himself said that "several months ago, a wave of terrorism began in the country, we stormed vigorously and launched the 'Breakwater' operation."

In a joint action by all the IDF bodies, including the intelligence arrays, ICT, units and battalions of the Judea and Samaria Division and the Central Command, we set as a goal the protection of the country's residents and the prevention of terrorism as the first priority in the IDF's missions. In recent months, we have developed intelligence, defense and offensive capabilities and the means until the result where our abilities have multiplied tenfold in the last four months.

Kochavi also added: "Establishing the barrier along the seam line in Judea is a clear example of the development of capabilities. The project was established with the aim of reducing the scope of infiltrators who try to cross into Israel illegally. In fact, by erecting the barrier we are thwarting terrorist attacks.
