Opinion The war in Ukraine: maybe China can | Israel today

The world is sending toys but in practice it seems to have come to terms with the Russian occupation of Ukraine

Sending toys.

The world does not like long wars.

If the Thirty Years' War took place today - its end, in 1648, would have received a little news on page 7. President Volodymyr Zelensky still makes sure to wear khaki shirts, and does not change them even for very important political meetings, but that is no longer impressive.

Russia is gnawing away at the eastern and southern territories of Ukraine, and the world is complete.

Incompleteness means war.

Maybe a world war.

Who knows how many people might die in a nuclear war?

This has not been tried yet, and those who try may be the destroyer of the world.

Who will take responsibility for this?

Entire cities are being destroyed by Russia.

It's hard to believe that this is happening now, and here (almost).

We sympathize.

Toys are sent to the children, and the good people in charge of aid say there are already enough toys.

We did ours.

The world will not come to save Ukraine.

The sanctions boomeranged.

The inflationary cost of living is putting people on the streets, and not just in Sri Lanka.

Even if Ukraine is ready to fight to the last drop of blood, the world is ready for much less.

Ukraine will not defeat Russia, even if NATO supplies it with more sophisticated and more sophisticated weapons. Inviting it to begin the process of joining the European Union will not lead to a ceasefire. The Jewish actor-president may change his shirt and find an experienced mediator capable of ending the ongoing bloodshed. Until Russia has another leader. Until NATO has the courage to add Ukraine to the ranks of the alliance.

China, tiptoeing through the current crisis, may, perhaps, play the role of mediator.

If everyone agrees.

Although the Israeli-Palestinian conflict occupied a rather marginal place in President Biden's talks in Israel, at the end of his visit, it appears that there is a consensus that has not existed here for many years regarding its solution.

Biden himself made sure to repeat that the two-state solution is the only solution to the conflict that has been going on for so many years.

He found in Yair Lapid an Israeli Prime Minister with whom he could not agree more, and who felt that only the establishment of a Palestinian state could guarantee Israel as a Jewish and democratic state.

During his visit to Saudi Arabia, where the American President's hosts are, about their country's ongoing commitment to the realization of the two-state solution, and to the Saudi initiative which centers on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

Only a month ago Israel had a prime minister who categorically rejected a Palestinian state and was not ready to see the face of the Palestinian president.

Just a year and a half ago, there was a president in the US who was indifferent to the question of whether the solution to our conflict would be within the framework of one or two countries. Just a week ago, there had still been no talks between the US president and the Saudi crown prince.

One can, of course, say that it is a tax on everyone's lips.

That everyone understands that it can't happen now.

This is a transitional government in Israel, which cannot make dramatic decisions that have an impact on the future of the country, this is a weak and unpopular American president who may lose his party's majority in both houses of Congress, and this is a cynical Saudi prince, the last thing that really interests him is the fate of the Palestinians.

But those who believe that without an agreed border there is no solution for Israel as a Jewish and democratic state, and that without the establishment of a Palestinian state the Palestinians will not realize their right to self-determination - should turn to the Saudi leadership, offer it the unique opportunity that has been created, and promote its own plan: to implement a policy of skipping, to invite the the various parties to a meeting of leaders, and not to leave the only practical idea that can change everything, like some prayer that a person says several times a day, and no longer pays attention to his own saying.
