Senator Zulma Ramona Gómez Cáceres, of the opposition Authentic Radical Liberal Party (PLRA), was found lifeless this Sunday morning at Lake Acaray, in Ciudad del Este, prosecutor Cinthia Leiva confirmed to program La Lupa, broadcast by Telefuturo.
A court document accessed by CNN confirms the discovery of the body and orders that the causes of death be investigated.
The Public Ministry indicated on Twitter that "the corresponding autopsy and other investigative procedures will be carried out."

The prosecutor said that, according to the testimony of the relatives and the hypothesis they handle, the senator was alone on the dock of her farm, before falling into Lake Acaray in the early hours of the morning.
According to the prosecutor, Gómez's granddaughter indicated that the senator went to the dock at night with a mattress and blankets to be alone and reflect.
The newspaper Última Hora reported that the forensic doctor Hugo Céspedes pointed to drowning as a preliminary cause of death.
The Paraguayan Congress decreed three days of mourning for the death of Zulma Gómez.
