The director of Hama Agriculture, Engineer Ashraf Bakir, announced that the estimated production of pears for the current season is 788 tons in the lands under the supervision of the work of the Directorate.
Bakir said in a statement to SANA reporter that the total area planted with pear trees is 2,209 hectares, of which 1,665 hectares are in rain-fed lands and the rest is irrigated, with a total number of trees of 67,598 trees, including 60,585 fruitful trees, most of which are in rain-fed lands.
Bakir pointed out that the Masyaf area is one of the most important places for planting pear trees in the governorate, as it accounts for more than 90 percent of the areas planted with this tree, followed by the Mahardah and Sabboura areas, in addition to separate places in the outer Hama section.
He pointed out that the Directorate of Agriculture in the governorate provides seedlings in its nurseries at reduced prices and provides the necessary instructions to farmers on ways to combat pests and diseases to which the pear tree is exposed.
It is noteworthy that the cultivation of pear trees is usually done in the month of March, while the fruits are produced and marketed during the months of June, July and August.
