Today, on the sea corniche in Tartous, a week-long cleaning campaign began with the participation of students from secondary schools, Tartous University and volunteers.

The campaign, which was launched by Tartous Governorate in cooperation with the City Council, the Students’ Union and the Youth of the Revolution branches, and a number of associations, was titled “Cleanliness is a civilization, with hands in Tartous is better.” The director of the Solid Waste Department, Engineer Wissam Issa, explained in a statement to SANA reporter that the campaign aims to promote a culture of hygiene and devote volunteer work. and partnership between the public sectors, civil society and organizations.

City Council President Judge Muhammad Zain, in turn, explained that the initiative is of great importance in promoting the cleanliness of the city and providing support and assistance to the council to accomplish its work with the increase in the city’s population and the need to provide services, stressing the role of homes and schools in promoting the concept of a culture of cleanliness.

The head of the Students’ Union branch, Hammam Kanaj, spoke about the union’s participation in this voluntary campaign, which comes from its belief in the participation of government agencies and local administration councils to carry out activities that would improve the governorate’s reality, especially in the environmental and health field, pointing to the participation of 100 students from Tartous University in the campaign.

In turn, the director of the Syria Youth Imprint Foundation in Tartous, Hussein Muhammad, considered that participation falls within the foundation's work and objectives, which serve the community and advance the service reality, in addition to improving the conditions of participatory work with various activities.

The head of Sindyan Association for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development, Suhad Ali, said in turn that the cleanliness and protection of the environment are at the forefront of the association's goals and activities, and added that the idea of ​​volunteer work for associations contributes to supporting government agencies to raise the level of cleanliness and educate community members.
