The Minister Delegate for Transport talks to the Parisian about ways to limit the use of private planes by individuals and companies, in particular over short distances or when there is a rail alternative.

While Internet users closely track billionaires who take their private jet for journeys of a few tens of minutes - to the point of arousing controversy, the Minister Delegate for Transport is on the verge of initiating a reflection within the government to "

regulate

" the flights of private planes.

According to Le Parisien, Clément Beaune would indeed have confided: "

to act and regulate private jet flights

" which, according to him, are becoming "

the symbol of a two-speed effort

" in the fight against carbon emissions.

Still according to information from Le Parisien, the minister has been working on the subject since July.

He intends to wear it at the start of the executive, as part of the discussions around the "

" wanted by Emmanuel Macron to start the path towards ecological planning.

The regulation of private jet flights, for businesses and individuals, could also be defended by Clément Beaune at the next meeting of European transport ministers.

“Behaviors that no longer pass”

Without venturing to immediately propose detailed measures, Clément Beaune evokes for the moment several tracks, which could be declined in the form of incentive, regulation or taxation, and would primarily target short flights or those for which there are a rail alternative.

He is also considering integrating private aircraft flights into the carbon tax quotas, currently decided by the European Union.

Without falling into demagoguery, nor into ad hominem hunting, there are a certain number of behaviors that no longer pass.

There are urgent reasons, economic imperatives, but it cannot be an individual mode of travel for comfort, while the general mobilization initiated by the president requires everyone to make an effort,

”said Clément Beaune again.

For his part, the Green MP Julien Bayou said in an interview with

Liberation

that he wanted to table a bill this fall aimed in particular at banning private jets.
