Opinion Who needs Erdogan? Israel today

2022-08-25T23:32:32.708Z

The Egyptians are blackmailing us, and we smile in resignation • Turkey is an important regional player, but we have no interest in reaching out to Erdogan • It should be made clear to the Germans, Egyptians and Qataris that it is impossible to be friend and enemy at the same time

This week the head of the Shin Bet, Ronan Bar, was sent to try to appease the wrath of the authorities of the land of the pharaohs. According to the reports, the Egyptian sages were frothing at the mouth over the fact that Israel dared to carry out arrests in Yosh, and, among other things, killed the terrorist Ibrahim Nabulsi in Nablus.

In other words, a foreign country acted with annoyance with us because we dared to fight terrorism, in our country.

What did the senior envoy of the Israeli government promise to the head of the Egyptian intelligence with whom he met this week?

Is it conceivable that our Prime Ministers undertook to tie our hands in the war against the enemy, in order to appease the Egyptian fury?

This little story illustrates the trap Israel has fallen into, in its overwhelming desire to gather friends at any cost.

The Egyptian response comes against the backdrop of Egyptian mediation in Gaza, which raises the question of what exactly did Cairo promise the Islamic Jihad "in return" for its agreement to a ceasefire?

And what exactly did Lapid and Gantz commit to Sisi and his men?

It's just that the Egyptian "fury" itself is unacceptable insolence.

Through it, the Egyptians are trying to prevent the State of Israel from defending itself, certainly from settling in the land of its ancestors.

This is nothing less than an attempt at extortion, which should have been met with a similar counter-currency rather than begging and folding.

The Egyptian episode links to fresh news about contacts between Israel and Qatar, towards what is known as the renewal of "normalization" between the countries.

To mention, diplomatic relations with Qatar prevailed until the Doha authorities severed them as punishment for a defensive action taken in Gaza.

Now the Qataris are spreading news about the warming of relations, and Defense Minister Gantz also found it appropriate to thank them with warm words for their "contribution" to the ceasefire in Gaza.

The Qataris now have good reasons to warm relations with us, against the backdrop of direct Saudi threats against them.

After all, they finance and host the main terrorist elements and work under the neighboring regimes, including under us.

We, on the other hand, have no need to satisfy the interests of those who support our enemies.

The Qataris are indeed playing a double game, with the suitcases of money to Gaza and whispers of mediation with Hezbollah, but Israel has no interest in strengthening the Emir of Qatar, quite the opposite.

The same phenomenon also appears in what was marketed as happy news in the media - the return of the ambassadors and the warming of relations with Turkey.

This is certainly happy news for Recep Tayyip Erdogan, but for us - not sure.

There is no dispute that Erdogan is anti-Semitic and an enemy.

The one who destroyed the intimate relationship that prevailed between Israel and Turkey, on purpose.

However, through hubris and folly, the Turkish Sultan managed to destroy Turkey's relationships with key countries and crush the Turkish economy.

Now, in preparation for the internal elections, out of distress he initiates desperate moves to save the suffocating economy in order to be elected again.

The thawing of hostilities towards Israel is intended for exactly this.

It is true that Turkey is an important regional player, but we have no interest in reaching out to Erdogan.

In any case, there are significant economic relations between the countries, and precisely now Israel must respond coldly to the attempts of artificial heating by the enemy Erdogan.

We will go even further - to Germany, a country that, unlike all the others mentioned, is indeed our friend, despite and because of its dark past.

Suddenly the Germans discovered Russia, and they are eager to buy the Arrow 3 system from us to protect themselves and their neighbors.

Despite the sensitivity, it is important to make such a deal with a central friend like Germany.

But not as long as it penetrates our political system and strengthens the Palestinian enemy.

Just this week it was revealed on Channel 12 how money from the German ruling party finances extreme political elements in the Meretz party, with the aim of influencing our internal politics.

At the same time, the Germans have been financing a series of extreme left-wing organizations and hostile Palestinian organizations for years, through funds fed by government money.

Therefore, Israel must make it clear to Berlin that those who are interested in the secrets and benefits of the arrow must change the rules - stop any internal striving against us using government funds.

In general, this is the time to make it clear to the Germans, the Egyptians, the Qataris and anyone who wants to be near us that it is impossible to be a friend and an enemy at the same time.

There may be differences of opinion between friends, but no interference in our internal affairs, and no dirty political games that strengthen our enemies.

This position is required by maintaining our self-respect, not to mention the very survival.

And those who want friendly relations conditional on him weakening, castrating and changing us - no, thank you.

Self-reflection in religious Zionism

This week I crossed my fingers for the success of Orit Struck, in the internal elections that took place in the party that calls itself "religious Zionism".

Strock is an extraordinary public figure, totally devoted to her world view - smart and effective in an indescribable way.

But I was very careful not to praise Struck in public until the end of the vote in her party, so as not to harm her.

Unfortunately, some of the voters of Smotrich's party might have been reluctant to vote for the leader from Hebron, precisely because of my recommendations.

This situation illustrates the tragedy now unfolding in the right-wing camp, which is crushed and conflicted within itself, but sharpens the distortion to which the leaders of religious Zionism have led the sheep from their pasture.

According to the teachings of the party leader, I am considered a classic public enemy, one in whose midst one should not pray.

As someone who supported the move of Bennett and Shaked to the coalition they established, and sees the blind pursuit of Netanyahu as a national disaster.

In general, according to the world of concepts that Smotrich instilled in his supporters, it is likely that I also support terrorism because I am still in favor of a coalition with Mansor Abbas, although not relying on his votes.

Of course, on the condition that he agrees to the very clear and "right-wing" basic lines that I would set for the coalition.

It doesn't matter what my determined world view is, which bypasses on the right most members of the bloc to which religious Zionism was annexed, and falsely calls itself the "camp of the right".

Because although Smotrich's party is a right-wing party, Netanyahu's Likud is not, nor are Deri's and Gafni's parties, both of whom have distinctly left-wing views.

People like Smotrich and Struck know how far Netanyahu has deviated from the path of the right, which the three of us share on the security-settlement level.

Those like them know how Netanyahu abused the settlements, broke promises, and tried as hard as he could to inculcate the ideas of the left, including the Palestinian state.

Among other things, he publicly qualified Mansor Abbas and Prime Minister for his personal needs. Nevertheless, Netanyahu's involvement in the moves of Smotrich's party is welcomed and dismissed, while my recommendation would have harmed Struck's internal race.

In preparation for the next round of trolling that Netanyahu forced upon us, it is time for the top of the Smotrich party to do a soul-searching and even beat themselves up for sin.

Maybe it will also add pointers.
