While the majority of Israeli students do not know whether the upcoming school year will begin this week as a series on September 1, this coming Thursday, following the strike threats - most students in the ultra-orthodox sector will begin the school year tomorrow (Sunday) morning, after only three weeks of vacation.

The ultra-Orthodox educational institutions are subordinate to the Ministry of Education, but when it comes to the annual vacation schedule, the ultra-Orthodox education system operates according to a different calendar and the first day of the school year is determined according to the Hebrew date A Elul, about a month before the beginning of the new Hebrew year.

The return to school is for the boys of all ages, starting from elementary educational institutions known as "Hayidar" and "Torah Talmuds", through small and high yeshivas to inclusive ones where the students are blessed after they get married.

It is estimated that there are 270 thousand students.

The ultra-Orthodox girls will start the school year as a series this coming Thursday, also without fear of a strike or threats from the teachers' union.

"For us, studies are in the first place and there is no fear or room for a strike," said the director of an ultra-Orthodox institution in Jerusalem in a conversation with Walla, "like during the Corona period when we studied despite everything and it was proven that we were right, this time as well. We are not subject to the dictates of the teachers' organization or other bodies. Studies are studies , and education should be a priority."

The President of the State, Boji Herzog, will not visit an ultra-Orthodox institution tomorrow, similar to last year - due to his stay abroad, but at the end of the week he published a special article in the ultra-orthodox press on the occasion of the occasion in which he wrote that "the world of Yeshivot, Talmud Torah, and Haidar, which is now renewing the school year , continues to preserve in his students one of the strengths unique to the Jewish tradition according to which learning is not only an intellectual process but an emotional, sensory process, which needs to 'open the learner's heart' and be palpable in the limbs."

At the President's House, preparations were made for the possibility that Herzog would visit the ultra-orthodox city of Elad later this week.

With the opening of the school year, the police appeals to the parents of the students with a request to observe the rules of caution on the roads to avoid life-threatening situations.

Among other things, they remind to check that a child is not forgotten in the back seat of the car, to make sure to stop and drop off passengers in a safe manner, to use appropriate restraint devices correctly and to drive slowly and carefully while giving pedestrians the right of way on their way to schools and kindergartens.
