A 40-year-old laborer was hit by a tractor excavator at a factory on Maryland Boulevard in Rishon Lezion.

MDA medics and paramedics arrived at the scene and had to determine his death.

MDA paramedic Inbar Adani and MDA emergency medicine medic Shimon Paresh said: "The wounded man was lying next to Bager unconscious and suffering from a very severe multi-system injury. We performed medical tests, but he had no signs of life and we had no choice but to determine his death."

As I recall, last month a 40-year-old worker fell from a height of about 7 meters in Peres Park in Holon and was seriously injured.

MDA medics and paramedics arrived at the scene, gave him medical treatment and evacuated him to Sheba Tel Hashomer Hospital while he was unconscious, with a head injury, sedated and ventilated.

Alarming data

Since the beginning of 2022, 12 construction workers have been killed in Israel.

About 41% of the fatal work accidents are caused by falling from a height and objects hitting the heads of workers at construction sites.

Do these data impress the employees and site managers?

A new study conducted by the research department and the instructors of the Institute of Safety and Health (Hamusal) among the workers at the construction sites, shows that not really.

The study shows that 61% of the workers do not use personal protective equipment and the chin strap (santeria), which is designed to prevent a helmet from falling off the worker's head.

About 15% of those who received equipment as required reported that they do not use the chin strap at all.

40% of the workers reported that they were not provided with the chin strap for the helmet and 35% do not know when they should use it while working.
