Five films from Algeria, Egypt, Morocco and Syria were shown today on the stage of the Palace of Culture in the city of As-Suwayda on the third evening of the As-Suwayda Short Film Festival in its fifth session, which bears the name of the late artist Nidal Sejri.
The performances began with the Algerian animated film “The Bridge” directed by Boukeef Mohamed Taher Shawky, which carries symbolic connotations that open the door to multiple readings, including the effects of the different balance of development between the countryside and the city.
It was followed by the Egyptian movie Adam directed by Nora Edward, which embodies the victory of the dream, no matter how impossible it seems to be achieved, and raises the values of equality within a human framework.
It was followed by the movie “Colorful Darkness” from Morocco, directed by Mohamed Amalab, which discusses the possibility of adding colors to the dark world of the blind, not rushing to judgments and being satisfied with what we are.
It was followed by the movie “Hero from Metaphor” from Egypt directed by Yahya Khalifa, which raises the question: How can young people achieve their obsessions and dreams without possessing the ingredients and tools for success and the will for change?
To conclude the evening, Jouri films a screenplay, directed by Yazan Anzour, and produced by the General Film Organization, which tells the story of the suffering and struggle of the girl Jouri to stay alone in a destroyed neighborhood that was controlled by terrorist organizations after committing massacres against the people, during which she lost her family and what her life and dreams she lived in harsh and miserable conditions to reflect a humanitarian situation. It can be found anywhere that is exposed to war.
In a statement to SANA, a member of the jury, Maan Doueir, pointed out that the festival, since its inception, has been progressing with an increasing graph year after year, with the follow-up and efforts of its organizers, pointing out that the films participating in this session were characterized by richness and diversity of methods and topics presented, most of which bear deep ideas presented by young people and differed and varied ways of dealing with them. And dealt with the directive and technical aspects.
The Fifth Suwayda Short Film Festival was launched last Sunday and will continue until next Thursday, with the participation of 22 films from Syria and a number of Arab countries.
