Since Friday, 1001 delegates have come together in Hanover for two days for the 35th federal party conference of the CDU.
After the defeat in the Bundestag elections last year, the party wants to adopt a new charter of fundamental values and initiate a process of renewal of content.
On Saturday, the Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) is expected to give a greeting.
Söder's visit to Hanover is particularly explosive.
Large parts of the CDU give the man from Bavaria a large part of the responsibility for the failure in the federal election because of his ongoing taunts against the then CDU leader and Union Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet.
With its historically worst result of 24.1 percent after 16 years in government of Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU), the Union fell into the opposition.

But the CDU is not willing to wash old clothes.
Friedrich Merz emphasized this in his speech at the start of the party congress.
"We've put our quarrels behind us," he called out to delegates on Friday.
He had already met with Söder in January to discuss the mistakes made in the election campaign.
That's it, said Merz, and declared the conflict over.
He promised: "2021 will not be repeated."
