Today, the Faculty of Medicine at Damascus University, in cooperation with the American Society of Ophthalmology and the Clinical Ophthalmological Practice Guide Group, held the annual conference of ophthalmology at the faculty amphitheater in Damascus.

In his speech during the opening of the conference, the Dean of the College, Dr. Raed Abu Harb, pointed out the importance of conferences in exchanging experiences and introducing the latest scientific technologies in the world in various disciplines, including ophthalmology and its developments, pointing out that the university encourages students to research and participate in scientific studies of clinical cases.

For his part, the head of the Department of Eye Diseases and Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine at Damascus University, Dr. Gerges Daoud, indicated that a number of the department's students will participate in the conference by presenting lectures and research, and the author of the best research will be granted a delegation to participate in an external scientific conference.

In his speech, the coordinator of the American Society of Ophthalmology and the Clinical Ophthalmological Practice Guide Group, Dr. Anas Al-Anbari, explained that the group includes a group of Syrian, Arab and foreign doctors and publishes through its applications pamphlets and information that benefit patients in both Arabic and English, in addition to the practice guide for doctors, which includes research that carries qualitative therapeutic and diagnostic measures that will be implemented. A number of them were presented during the conference, along with educational videos and research articles on everything new in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases.

The head of the in-kind division at the University Hospital of Mowasat, Dr. Ziad Oyoun, pointed out the diversity of the conference sessions and their richness with practical applications, including those related to refractive surgery, corneal and retina diseases and cataracts, which contribute to the qualification and qualitative training of doctors according to international standards, by benefiting from external participations by default via the Internet in addition to local participations. From specialists in the hospitals of the ministries of higher education, scientific research, health and defense.

The specialist in eye diseases and surgery, Dr. Joseph Fattouh, stressed the importance of participating in medical conferences between professors and students of the Faculty of Medicine or postgraduate studies in terms of learning about everything that is new in eye disease and achieving continuous medical education, while Dr. Yusra Hadda indicated that the medical sector in Syria despite all the terrorist war imposed by Difficulties keep pace with developments on an ongoing basis, and this meeting is a great evidence of that, as this knowledge and scientific cooperation contribute to developing the quality of treatment services provided to patients.

The specialist in eye diseases and surgery, Dr. Iyad Al-Mahdi, gave a lecture on the complications that can occur during and after eye surgery and how to avoid them, pointing to the importance of exchanging experiences between specialist doctors and residents during these conferences.

Among the students participating in the research, Dr. Sarah Zahreddine indicated that her lecture included a research on a new protocol for injecting “Tromycin” into the cornea, explaining that this research is the second in the world where this protocol was applied in the Mowasat University Hospital on two patients and achieved recovery and were followed up for six months .

It is noteworthy that the conference was accompanied by a specialized medical exhibition in which seven companies specialized in medical equipment and medicines in the field of eye diseases participated.
