Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that the use of nuclear weapons by Russia will only be in accordance with the terms of the nuclear doctrine.

"All the reasons for the use of such weapons are stipulated in the terms of the nuclear doctrine, and there can be no other considerations for their use," Peskov was quoted by the RIA Novosti news agency as saying in response to a question about some calls for the use of nuclear weapons in the special operation in Ukraine.

On the other hand, Peskov commented on the request of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to join NATO urgently and quickly, saying: “We heard Zelensky’s statements and saw different reactions from NATO. That Ukraine applied for membership in NATO was one of the reasons for the start of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine.”

Regarding the disruption of the two North Stream pipelines, Peskov considered that this is not in the interest of a number of European countries, as well as Russia, as these countries lose backup paths for energy supplies.

He pointed out that this is profitable for the United States, which sells liquefied gas at an exorbitant price in Europe, and that there are countries that are technically capable of such sabotage, noting that "it is not clear with whom we can cooperate to maintain these lines in light of the raging West situation."

Regarding relations with Japan, Peskov stated that negotiating a peace treaty with Japan under the current circumstances is not possible.

He noted that Japan has steadfastly occupied a place next to a group of hostile countries and has itself turned into an unfriendly country to Russia, stressing that it is impossible to conduct any negotiations under these conditions.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said earlier: that despite the difficult relationship with Russia, Japan is strongly committed to resolving the territorial problem and concluding a peace treaty with Russia.
