The Ministry of the Interior transferred the money to the authorities, which is a record in the budget - this is a 25% increase compared to previous years • The reasons: special events and tourist sites that require more expensive security

This week, the Ministry of the Interior transferred more than 100 million shekels to the authorities in Judea and Samaria, a new record in the budget for these authorities, which is a 25% increase compared to previous years, and an addition of 40 million shekels to the current budget of the authorities over two years.

This amount is added to the additional 100 million shekels awarded to the authorities of the YOS as part of programs for economic and organizational development. This is a substantially larger amount compared to the previous years, which was provided by the Minister of the Interior Ayelet Shaked. The Ministry's grant to the YOS in 2019-2020 was 85 million shekels, and now it stands at about 106 million shekels.

A significant part of the sum given to the authorities in the Yash is a security grant. The authorities in the Yash are under a constant security threat, which significantly affects their day-to-day conduct.

Also, the authorities have to spend a lot of money in order to provide safe services to residents in every field: education, welfare, culture and more.

Special events, regional hubs and tourist sites require special and expensive security.

Minister Shaked explained to "Israel Today" in response: "For this reason, I committed to increase the security budgets of the authorities in Yash."

Dedicated development budget

The security grant given to the authorities increased from NIS 60 million in 2020 to NIS 75 million in 2021 and 2022.

This is a significant statement, as it includes recognition that alongside the direct costs of the security reality there are also indirect costs, which affect the Authority's activities.

In addition to the security grant, the Yosh authorities received an additional annual supplement for the care and supervision of the open areas.

This is an amount of about 15 million shekels a year, about 30 million shekels over two years.

Part of the sums is used to fight the war on the illegal Palestinian construction in areas C, for the consideration of each authority.

In recent years, land coordinators have been appointed in most of the councils in Yosh, and budgets like these, which are mainly used by regional councils, allow them to operate and maintain the open spaces.

Another budget, and no less important, is a dedicated development budget of half a million shekels, which was transferred to the Hebron administration.

Until now, the Ministry of the Interior would transfer budgets to the Hebron Municipal Committee at the end of each year against the entire year.

The Minister of the Interior doubled the committee's budget base, thus ensuring certainty and economic stability for years to come.

Today, the committee receives funds from the Ministry of the Interior every month.

Also, in the years 2021-2022, it was decided to transfer half a million shekels each year for the benefit of development projects in Hebron.

"It was important for the Minister of the Interior to put Hebron on the map, and she did so," explains Shaked's office.

set a precedent

The transfer of the increased budgets is significant for the settlement, because now the basic budgets for the economic and organizational development in Yash have been increased. "This is essential and important.

Just as the budget of the authorities in the Gaza Strip comes in without question and without a problem, the same should be the case in Yosh," they say in the settlement.

Minister Shaked's goal is, among other things, to create a precedent - that the heads of authorities will not have to come, beg or wait for a new political possibility, but that their budget base will be much higher than usual.
