The Damascus History Foundation presented this evening for the first time rare video recordings of Syria's modern history under the title "Anecdotes of Syria 2" in the presence of a wide range of writers, artists, politicians, intellectuals and media professionals, at the Orient Hotel in Damascus.

The video recordings were compiled in the form of a sixty-minute documentary film that included 60 scenes about the most prominent historical stations that Syria passed through at all political, military, social, artistic and media levels during a period of sixty years that extended from 1915 to 1975.

Historian and researcher Sami Al-Mobayed, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Damascus History Foundation, said: The source of these recordings is the University of Southern California, which contacted the Foundation and asked to provide an explanation about the events they contain and to clarify the content of the scenes in them, indicating that the Foundation requested a copy of these very rare recordings to be used for purposes. Non-profit educational and documentary, as it was worked on and compiled within a film that was shown in 2019 at the Damascus Museum, and then it was developed and worked on again according to a continuous chronological sequence and filling in the blanks in the recordings so that they appear in a consistent and expressive manner about the historical era of Syria during the mentioned period.

The researcher pointed out that the show includes real, live scenes of political figures who clearly appear in the scenes, as well as many local and international events that took place during that period and the emergence of many areas, landmarks and markets in Damascus, indicating the importance of this matter for the drama makers, including writers, directors and artists.

In a statement to SANA, Dr. Buthaina Shaaban, Special Adviser to the Presidency of the Republic, affirmed that the presentation is very effective and gives a spirit of hope for the future and confirms that Syria is a great, wonderful and elegant country and a historically civilized country that is invincible regardless of the challenges, pointing out the need for generations to be inspired by the memory of the evacuation of love for this country and for this history. Expressing its appreciation for the Foundation's efforts in introducing young generations to the history of their country and the most important historical events that Syria has experienced and their details, as well as introducing the achievements that occurred during that period.

Writer Colette Khoury pointed out that the presentation expressed a complete history that Syria went through at the political level, and expressed her hope that the upcoming historical documentation and recording processes will be carried out according to this new artistic approach, so that we will have historical and documentary works that we are proud and proud of.

Dr. Muhammad Firas Hanawi, Vice President of Damascus University for Scientific Research and Graduate Studies, said: “Today we watched for the first time a real documentary film that expresses the history of Damascus and Syria, which sheds light on a series of events that took place in Syria during that era. .

From the Friends of Damascus Association, Dr. Amal Mahasin stated that the show was rich in all the events and details that I experienced, some of which I saw embodied in front of me, showing the importance of documentation in this way and moving away from imagination, but rather a reality illustrated with words.

The Syrian writer Nadia Al-Ghazi expressed her admiration for the show, in which she appeared as the first woman who worked in presenting programs on Syrian television, and said: It included a rich history that made us sad at times and at other times with joy.
