The Turkish authorities announced that about 50 miners were trapped hundreds of meters underground, as a result of an explosion that occurred in a mine in the coastal town of Amasra in the north of the country.
CNN-Turk quoted Ragai Şakir, mayor of Amasra, as saying in a statement today: "Five people were trapped at a depth of 350 meters and 44 other people in another location at a depth of 300 meters underground in the mine located in the town of Amasra overlooking the Black Sea." Rescue teams were sent to the scene of the accident and an investigation was opened to find out the cause of the accident.
