New government, new approach to Israel:
The authorities in Australia announced tonight (Tuesday) that the country has withdrawn from recognizing West Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
This is a decision of the new Labor government, which goes against the pro-Israel policy of the previous government led by Scott Morrison.
The party announced their decision after it was reported this morning that sentences declaring the recognition of West Jerusalem were researched from the website of the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Later, Foreign Minister Penny Wong denied the allegations.
The decision to recognize West Jerusalem as the capital was made in Australia in 2018. Despite the significant declarative dimension of the announcement, the country has so far avoided moving the Australian embassy to the west of the city.
