The Bangkok city government will promote Bangkok as a regional economic and investment hub, aiming to compete with Hong Kong and Singapore as the preferred MICE destination.


Bangkok Mayor Chachai said on Tuesday (October 18) after meeting with Chairman of the Thai Chinese Chamber of Commerce Lim Chuqin, the Bangkok city government is ready to cooperate with the chamber of commerce to attract foreign institutions to hold events in Bangkok, according to Thailand's The Nation.

Chachai said, "Being a venue for hosting conferences and seminars will restore investor confidence in Bangkok as the economic hub of the region, thereby attracting foreign investment to Thailand. By partnering with private entrepreneurs, the city government is confident to upgrade our facilities, Meet international standards and compete with Hong Kong and Singapore.”

Chachai noted that he has been working on making Bangkok a "livable city", with a particular focus on addressing current issues such as floods and stimulating economic growth in the post-coronavirus era.

To this end, the city government has been facilitating business operations for foreign entrepreneurs and investors, including expediting the registration process for foreign companies, and working with foreign chambers of commerce to find English-speaking staff for foreign companies.

Chachai hopes the newly renovated Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre and the world-class Muang Thong Thani Convention and Exhibition Centre will attract people to Bangkok to host international events.

"Bangkok also has a lot of business hotels and office space to accommodate business travelers," he said.
