An event that happens once every few years will take place today (Tuesday) in the skies of Israel - a partial solar eclipse.

The eclipse will begin in Israel at 12:58 and end at 15:21.

The next partial solar eclipse will only occur in about five years, in 2027.

At the peak of the eclipse, about a third of the Sun's surface will be hidden by the Moon.

Since the peak of the eclipse will be seen north of Israel, the further north you travel, the part of the diameter covered by the moon will increase.

How does a solar eclipse occur?

The occultation of the sun by the moon takes place when the rest of the earth, the sun and the moon are on the same axis.

In this situation the moon passes between the earth and the sun and hides it, or part of it.

The paths between the three celestial bodies usually cross once every six months.

However, the intensity of the eclipse depends on the distance between the Earth and the Moon and the Sun and the angle of the Moon relative to the other two stars.

Either way, once every 18 months there is a total solar eclipse at any point on the planet.

Once every 370 years there is a solar eclipse at any point on Earth.

Do not watch the eclipse without protection

It is absolutely forbidden to watch the solar eclipse without eye protection.

There are various aids, such as special glasses and different types of telescopes, with which you can observe the solar eclipse without risk.

On the other hand, if you watch the partial solar eclipse with your eyes uncovered, or covered with something that is not suitable for viewing, such as sunglasses, you may risk blindness.

A solar eclipse occurs when the Earth, the Sun and the Moon are on the same axis.

From a point of view from Earth, the Moon appears to rise above the Sun and literally "hide" it behind it.
