The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, finally spoke in public two days after his defeat by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the presidential elections, and gave a message that lasted just a few minutes.
"We formed various leaderships in Brazil. Our dreams are more alive than ever. We are for order and progress," the current president began by saying.
And he added: "We overcame a pandemic and the consequences of a war. I was always labeled as anti-democratic, but contrary to my accusers I always played within the lines of the Constitution."
And although he did not directly grant victory to Lula or congratulate him for being the winner in the race, Bolsonaro assured that "as long as I am president of the republic and a citizen, I will continue to fulfill all the mandates of our Constitution. Precisely, his extensive silence had aroused fears of not cooperate with a transfer of power.
"It is an honor to be the leader of millions of Brazilians who defend, like me, economic freedom, religious freedom, freedom of opinion, honesty and the green and yellow colors of our flag," the president concluded.
